Den briljanta flöjttrion Subramanyam-Mohan-Hariharan bjuder på en kväll med karnatisk musik – en glädjefull sammanslagning av rytm, melodi och konstnärligt uttryck.
Shantala Subramanyam har gjort sig ett namn som en ambassadör för den sydindiska klassiska, eller karnatiska, musiken. Hon är en av få professionella kvinnliga utövare på den indiska bambuflöjten venu och en musiker som både spelar och berättar om musiken med inlevelse och tanke. I denna konsert har hennes trio med sig en traditionell trio med mridangamtrumma, fiol och flöjt.

Shantala Subramanyam – Flute and vocal
Shantala, born in Bangalore – India, was immersed in music right from her birth having born into an illustrious music family. She was initiated into formal training in Carnatic [South Indian] Classical vocal music at a tender age of 4 and she took to flute playing when she was about 11 years old. It was her good fortune to be trained by eminent performers -vocalist Late Sri. Vairamangalam Lakshminarayanan and is currently pursuing vocal music training under Sri O.S.Thyagarajan and Sri Sriram Parasuram. She gratefully acknowledges the contributions of famed South Indian drummers Trichur Sri.Narendran, Patri. Satish Kumar and Parupalli Phalgun towards enriching her rhythm training. Her brother Shashank and father Subramanyam nurtured her talent carefully assuming the role of a teacher.
At this time in India where women flutists are only a hand few, Shantala has been a prominent contributor to this field owing to her diligent and hard training. This view has been echoed by music critiques. She has been highly appreciated for her melodic presentations combined with complex rhythmic patterns.
She has released a double album CD titled “Bamboo in Harmony”, “Singing Bamboo” and “Dakshin” which has been highly appreciated by critiques and audiences alike. In this CD she has collaborated with some of the most sought after artists from South India.
Shantala has performed extensiveinly in India, USA, Europe, Canada, UK, Africa and UAE.
Madan Mohan – violin
Madan a graduate in commerce from the prestigious Vivekananda college, is a Full time performing artist currently under the guidance of Shri. R K Shriram Kumar. He had his initial training under Shri Pannapattu S Venkatesan and Shri TV Ramani. He has performed in various prestigious Sabhas and organizations in Chennai and all over India. He has had the privilege of sharing the stage with senior musicians.
S. Hariharan – Mridangam, Khanjir and Kunnakol
S. Hariharan is a Mridangam artist
hailing from Chennai. He had his initial tutelage from T. S. Nandakumar and has been undergoing rigorous training from Patri Satish Kumar for over a decade. He is a graded Mridangam artist of All India Radio, Chennai and also holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science Engineering from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai.
Hariharan had his debut concert at the age of 11. He has accompanied eminent musicians such as Flute Maestro Shashank Subramanyam, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, Hyderabad Brothers, O.S. Thiagarajan, Madurai G.S.Mani, and others. Hariharan has performed at various venues in India and abroad.
