DUETS

DUETS – Dialogues between international folk/world and Swedish jazz voices

DUETS is a new concert series initiated by Semente Cultural Productions during autumn and winter 2022/2023. Once a month, we will present a unique live music  experience where an international world/folk artist plays with an established Swedish jazz instrumentalist and composer. The basis of these concerts is to present to a curious audience artists who compose new music and play unusual instruments from different countries, on stage with a well-known Swedish musician who is established in the jazz world. The idea is to let the artists have a dialogue between their original repertoires and throughout the voices of their instruments, giving space to the improvisation as well.

Program/Programme:

Torsdag 26 januari / Thursday 26th January

Rachele Andrioli (Italien – röst, slagverk)

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Rachele Andrioli is one of the most interesting  Apulian (Italy) voices whose popularity is growing as well as in Italy and abroad, as testified by the participation to prestigious festivals of world music, jazz and classical, and her collaboration with important international artists, such as Arto Lindsay, Piers Faccini, Baba Sissoko, Roopa Mahadevan. Her research work is focused on the development of the voice , according to traditional styles using innovative techniques. Rachele starts from the popular Apulian repertoire to skillfully blend it with other musical worlds. During her live shows, she accompanies her voice with tambourines, harmonic flutes, harps, string instruments and electronics. She is also committed to the development of polyphonic singing, running workshops both in Italy and abroad. She is the founder of the female choir ”Coro a Coro”, which welcomes women from Salento (south Apulia). Rachele’s Mediterranean voice and instruments will meet Nils Berg’s Nordic flute and saxophone sounds in this exclusive duo concert.

Nils Berg (Sverige – flöjt, saxofon)

Nils Berg is one of the most influential voices in Nordic jazz. With his trio, Nils Berg Cinemascope (Josef Kallerdahl – bass; Konrad Agnas, drums), he has made a name for himself both in Sweden and internationally, and in 2007 he received the prestigious Jazz-in-Sweden-award. In 2015 he was awarded the prize, jazzkatten, in the category Composer of the Year, by Swedish radio. His visionary way of creating music, getting inspiration from original traditional/folk songs from all over the world (Butan, Afghanistan, Punjab, Japan, south Italy), in a visual and musical way, earned him the name of ”Fellini of Jazz”. He’s an integral part of numerous projects that together span a small universe of sound, ranging from pop stars Håkan Hellström and Nina Persson, through Martin Hederos, Iiris Viljanen and The Weils, to jazz legends Oskar Schönning and Georg Riedel.
